900 Congolese Francs = US$1

$US is the main currency in use in Democratic Republic of Congo, although small change is likely to be given to you in Congolese Francs.

Please Note: the Congolese are very particular about which type of $US notes they accept, make sure your notes are printed no earlier than 2004 and are not ripped or torn.

Goma has about 5 ATM that dispense $US bills, but you won’t find any machines outside of Goma so make sure that you have enough money with you before you leave the city. It is also advisable to have smaller notes for small purchases such as drinks or to give tips, as it can be difficult to find correct change outside of Goma.

Costs

Mikeno Lodge Rates are full board, so all meals (lunch, dinner, breakfast) and drinks such as coffee, tea & water are included in the price of a night’s stay at the lodge. Any alcoholic or fizzy drinks must be paid for separately.

When visitors trek either the chimps or gorillas a packed lunch and adequate water will be provided at no extra cost.

Visitors who climb Nyiragongo volcano are expected to bring their own food and water. The lodge can provide packed meals which include enough food for lunch, dinner and breakfast and adequate water for the trek. This is charged at $25 per person and is not included in the lodge price as you spend the night on top of the volcano and not at the lodge.
